Privacy Policy

How we collect, use, and protect your information — and your child's.

Effective date: July 11, 2026

The nonprofit organization Tezcatlipoca ("we," "us," "our") operates tezcatlipoca.com (the "Site") and offers free cultural-education programming. This Policy explains what information we collect and how we use and protect it.

Because our classes are offered to children, this Policy includes a dedicated Children's Privacy section (Section 6) describing how we handle the personal information of children under 13 in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). Please read it carefully.

1. Information we collect

  • From parents and guardians: when you use a form on the Site, you may voluntarily provide your name, email address, and similar contact information.
  • About an enrolled child: when a parent or legal guardian enrolls a child, we collect only the information reasonably necessary to operate the class: the child's first name, the child's age or grade level, and the information needed to admit the child to an online session. We do not require a child to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate.
  • Collected automatically: when you access the Site, our hosting and forms provider may collect limited technical data such as IP address, browser type, and access times. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles of children.

2. How we use information

We use the information we collect to process enrollments and administer our classes; communicate with parents and guardians about scheduling, attendance, and program updates; operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site and the classes; and comply with legal obligations and protect the safety of participants.

We do not use children's personal information for behavioral advertising, and we do not use it to train artificial intelligence systems.

3. How we disclose information

  • Service providers: we may share information with vendors that perform services necessary to operate the classes (for example, the video-conferencing platform used to deliver sessions). These providers are bound by contract to use the information only to provide services to us and to keep it confidential.
  • Program team in Mexico: some program instructors and collaborators are located in Mexico — including our collaboration with Centro Universitario Tlacaélel — and may access enrollment information in order to teach and administer the classes, under confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal requirements and safety: we may disclose information where required by law, to respond to legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of any person, including reporting obligations applicable to youth-serving organizations.

We do not sell children's personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for those parties' own marketing or advertising. Any further disclosure of a child's personal information will be made only with the separate, verifiable consent of the child's parent or guardian.

4. Cookies and persistent identifiers

The Site uses cookies and limited tools to support the internal operations and security of the Site (for example, basic hosting and spam protection on our forms). We do not use persistent identifiers to track users across other sites or for behavioral advertising.

5. Data retention and deletion

We retain a child's personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the child's participation in the program (the duration of enrollment plus one program cycle). We do not retain it indefinitely, and we delete it when it is no longer needed or upon the parent's or guardian's request.

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Our children's program is intended for children ages 6 to 13, and enrollment is completed by a parent or legal guardian. We comply with COPPA, whose protections apply to children under 13.

  • Notice and consent: we collect enrollment information from you, the parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 online without first providing notice to the parent or guardian and, where applicable, obtaining verifiable consent.
  • We do not collect information directly from children during sessions: our live sessions are designed so that no child's name, image, voice, or persistent identifiers are captured or recorded. The only recordings we make are lessons prepared in advance by our teaching staff, with no children present, for internal educational use only.
  • Parent or guardian rights: at any time, you may (i) review the personal information collected from your child, (ii) request its deletion, and (iii) refuse to permit its further collection or use.
  • How to exercise them: contact us using the details in Section 9.

7. California privacy rights (if applicable)

California residents may have the right to know, delete, and correct their personal information, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing." We do not sell or share personal information.

8. Security

We maintain reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of children's information. No internet transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we handle.
