The mission of Tezcatlipoca is the preservation and diffusion of cultures at risk of being forgotten, through diverse forms of media and cultural-enrichment activities.
Our current work centers on Mexican heritage: history, legends, languages, and tradition within reach of every family, at no cost. The organization's purpose encompasses any culture at risk of being lost.
Nature of the organization
Tezcatlipoca is a cultural organization. Its activities are cultural in character, devoted to preservation and public outreach: they complement, not replace, formal schooling, and confer no degrees, credits, or academic certifications.
Participation is voluntary, free of charge, and open to the community, subject to our Terms & Conditions and Privacy Notice.
Foundation
Mexico's historical memory, native languages, and traditions are being lost generation after generation, in Mexico and across the diaspora. Quality cultural material is often scattered, written in specialist language, or locked behind a cost.
The organization holds that access to one's own cultural heritage is a right, not a privilege.
Activities
A cultural-enrichment program organized in four areas, for children ages 6–13:
Foundational History
The origins and defining moments of the Mexican nation, from Aztlán to the present.
Regional History
The living heritage of Mexico's cultures: Zapotec, Mixtec, Maya, among others.
Language
Diffusion and preservation of native languages, alongside Spanish and English.
Entrepreneurship
Practical notions of enterprise and the productive use of technology.
Operating model
- Online, asynchronous activities, with one live session every Saturday; each family participates at its own pace.
- Facilitated by professors affiliated with Mexican universities, faithful to the historical sources: codices and chronicles.
- First cycle for ages 6–7; pre-registration open for ages 6–13.
- Information session for parents and guardians before starting.
Institutional commitments
- Free of charge. No family pays to participate. No advertising.
- Protection of minors. Live sessions are not recorded without the consent of all parents and guardians of the minors present, in accordance with our Privacy Notice.
- Living preservation. Languages and traditions are passed on as heritage in use.
